CLASS STYLE

JIVAMUKTI OPEN-LEVEL

ACTIVE + DYNAMIC + MOVEMENT​ + SATSANG

Together with an energizing, chakra-based vinyasa, a Jivamukti Open-level class also includes the chanting of mantra, seated meditation and satsang (dharma talk) inspired by a new theme every month. Each class serves as a bridge between the wisdom of the rishis (sages) and the modern world; and our practice on the mat and our every day, individual and collective experience. At the heart of each class is an exploration of the nature of the Self, philosophically and practically—how, according to our experience of the practice, we can live according to highest nature.

 

The Jivamukti Yoga School was co-founded by Sharon Ganon and David Life. From the Sanskrit jiva, which means “individual soul” and mukti, “liberated”, the goal of our practice is to experience freedom from suffering in this lifetime, in the present.

ASHTANGA VINYASA

ACTIVE + DYNAMIC + MOVEMENT​

Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs.

RELAX & RESTORE

MOVEMENT  + STILLNESS

The first half of this class begins in a slow flow to warm up, move and stretch aching muscles. The second half of class shifts into a relaxing, restorative practice. In restorative yoga, we practice grounding poses held for longer periods of time using the support of props. Recommended for beginners or students with injuries.

YIN YOGA

RELAXING + GROUNDING  + STILLNESS

This practice is designed to help you sit longer and more comfortably by stretching connective tissue around the joints (mainly the knees, pelvis, sacrum, and spine). This passive practice involves variations of seated and supine poses typically held for 3 to 5 minutes, accessing deeper layers of fascia

Recommended for beginners.

MEDITATION & SOUND BATH

RELAXING + GROUNDING  + STILLNESS

Sound from Tibetan Singing Bowls entrain the brain to move into Theta brain wave frequencies, inducing deep meditative and peaceful states. You'll rest in a comfortable posture, listen to healing sound vibrations and calm your nervous system. Recommended for beginners or students with injuries. 

CONSCIOUS CINEMA​

COMMUNITY + SOCIAL + GROUP MEDITATION

A community screening on the last Sunday of every month. We watch films that are current in our group consciousness, followed by meditation and discussion. Everyone on the island is welcome.

POST-SURF YOGA

RELAXING + GROUNDING  + STILLNESS

Slow down and stay a while. This is a calm, peaceful, and soulful setting, no fancy poses or transitions, just a lot of space for you to simply be you. This nourishing and relaxing practice is the perfect complement to our island's active surf lifestyle. Recommended for beginners or students with injuries.

EMBODIED FLOW

ACTIVE + DYNAMIC + MOVEMENT​

Embodied Flow™ is an integrative blend of hatha yoga, somatics, movement meditations, tantric philosophy, and transpersonal psychology that elicits the experience of stepping into flow as meditation in action. Expect expansive movement, flow, mindful transitions, pranayama or breath work, contemplation and relaxation.

VINYASA FLOW

ACTIVE + DYNAMIC + MOVEMENT​ 

A mindful movement class suitable for all levels. Your yoga practice can help​ those in need and support the greater community. Profits from this class support Puppy Puddle Siargao, a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life of the island dogs and cats, strays and those that are part of poorer communities. 

HATHA FLOW

MOVEMENT  + STILLNESS

This class incorporates the breath, movement and stillness. It allows the practitioner to explore areas of the body that we seldom pay attention to. A few breaths of moving the way the body wants to move. With the connection of breath and movement,  it lets the mind be more present, more aware, more mindful.

KIRTAN, SATSANG & MEDITATION

COMMUNITY + SOCIAL + GROUP MEDITATION

A community celebration held on or around the new moon and full moon. A Kirtan is a coming together to share stories through chanting of mantras, and is a method of meditation. Satsang means to be in the company of true people. These Kirtans are lead with the intention of building the island community that we seek – one that promotes joy, peace, love, and freedom. Travelers, settlers, locals, first-timers, everyone is welcome! Expect musical instruments, singing, and dancing and meeting new people.

YOGA NIDRA & CRYSTAL BOWL SOUND MEDITATION

MEDITATION + RELAXING + GROUNDING  + STILLNESS

Yoga Nidra is the practice of cultivating consciousness in the liminal (transitional) state between wakefulness and sleep. During this period, the body completely relaxes and the thinking-mind softens. We are then able to experience a deeper form of awareness. Yoga Nidra is the practice of maintaining this level of awareness to bring about true rest while accessing the innate wisdom that lies underneath the surface of our habitual thought patterns. With consciousness present in this stage, the nervous system rests, while we connect with the source of our creativity and bliss, from which we take inspiration and new-found understanding of our purpose, solutions to current challenges, etc. Yoga Nidra is a transformational practice that repatterns the mind-body structure so that it is in alignment with the individual soul’s unique expression of the Infinite. 

 

Following the guided meditation in Yoga Nidra, you will bathe in sound and vibration. Modern science has confirmed the positive impact sound crystal bowl vibrations have in relaxing the nervous system, facilitating healing in the physical (i.g. tumors) , emotional, and metal systems. 

PRANAYAMA & MEDITATION

RELAXING + GROUNDING  + STILLNESS

The quality of your breath reveals the quality of your life. 

 

In this practice we will refine the process of respiration, creating the qualities in our breath that we seek in our experience: strength, freedom from limitation and peace.

 

With an understanding of the intimate relationship between breath & mind, and the nature of the mind as the foundation for all experience, in these sessions, you will learn to strengthen & expand your breathing. This creates a stable foundation upon which to build the life of your choosing by increasing the mind-body’s capacity to hold and direct prana (life force energy). 

 

Therapeutic aspects of the practice are given great emphasis. You will come away deeply relaxed, with new found inspiration to achieve your goals. This practice is appropriate for all levels.
